Man cave progress

We started work in the man cave and I am really loving the progress. We did make some changes to the original plan which, If you remember, looked like this:

But after much thought we decided that it wasn't really necessary to purchase another sofa for this room when we have a perfectly good love seat down stairs that we would be otherwise giving away [the sofa is falling apart, read more about it here] so we switched it up and came up with this design instead...

The first thing we did was to paint. I knew I wanted a dark accent wall or two and we decided on Valspar's Crucible in an eggshell finish. Its a pretty grey blue and goes well with our style. We finished the other walls in the same color as the downstairs: Valspar Frappe.

Then, I had Zack build me a rustic desk in the odd little nook of the room so that I could get my crappy Target desk out of our room.

Its a lot more spacious than my other desk and much more my style, so now Ill have a place to design without being cramped.

I'm really happy with the room so far and pretty much all we have to do now is add furniture and accessories. Till next time!

Man Cave

I think I mentioned before that Kelsey has been living with us for a while and now that shes found a place of her own we are getting plans ready for her room. Zack and I have discussed having a man cave room that can benefit both of us. We have had the same TV for our entire marriage [six years!] and while it works great, we are due for an upgrade and since I'm a firm believer of no TV in the bedroom and we don't want to get rid of our current tv we decided creating a fun movie room where Zack can escape HGTV and play some video games would work well for our life. Now, Zack and I are so very different in terms of our styles and if it was up to him there'd be car seats on the ground with a tv as big as the wall and black curtains. He would be so happy. Me? Not so much! This might be a room designed for him but its still in MY home and I shutter at the thought of anyone walking into that room for movie night thinking I designed it. It took a few heated arguments but I finally got him to agree to let me do my thing and draw up some plans for the perfect masculine farmhouse room and this is what I came up with.

After I showed him the plans hes totally on board. He even suggested the cowhide rug to tie it all together. We already have a few things, the grey paint, the curtains and the thro blanket, so we dont have much else to purchase. We're hoping to have the whole room complete by July and since Kelsey doesn't move out till June and I have a business trip right after we are going to be working fast to make that deadline, but I'm super excited to work on this project with him and hope you'll stay tuned for updates.

Bathroom talk

In my last apartment we had these built in shelves next to the toilet and truth be told I hated them moving in because I wasn't sure what to do with them, but now now that I don't have them I miss them! Ain't that how it always goes?

Right now we just have this little "water closet" and there's no storage and I can't tell you how many times I ran out of toilet paper and had to yell [or text] Zack to run up and bring me some. I mean, yeah we're married but I'd like to keep a LITTLE mystery please! I was looking over Pinterest the other day and came across this tutorial for some faux floating shelves. Right up my alley because those real floating shelves just take too dang long to build and I don't have the skill or the patience to pull it off. If you remember, this is what it looked like when I started...

And this is what it looks like today.

So much better! And, no more awkward, hand-me-TP around the door scenarios. I really love them!

Also, while shopping at Lowes for our supplies Zack and I were perusing the tile isle and he started spouting all these ideas HE has for our future house. I was quite taken aback since he's never voiced any opinions about our decor, and quite honestly our styles are so very different. If he had it his way our house would look like a desert meets Mediterranean meets traditional vibe like this...
[his aunts house in Lake Havasu]

and this is my plan ....

Total opposites. After and hour of arguing [me yelling "VETO!" at everything he picked out] we did find a happy medium. This is what we came up with....

I'm thinking its a great compromise. He wanted pebble tile in natural color, we agreed on this pretty grey/white one instead. He wanted a glass enclosure, I wanted a shower curtain, he won on that one. He wanted travertine tile in the shower and the floors, I wanted to break it up and do white subway in the shower and grey ceramic on the floor, I won that one. We both wanted oil rubbed bronze fixtures, wood elements and a vessel sink so that was easy and this is where we put it all together. I am loving it and I hope that soon we will have a home to bring this idea to life. Stay tuned.

Jewel tones

I was scrolling through the At Home page on Facebook the other day and this woman posted that she had just gotten a green velvet sofa delivered. At first I thought she actually paid money for that? I guess I've always thought of velvet sofas as... old. Like you wouldn't have it in your house by choice but maybe because it was a hand-me-down from your grandma and you couldn't say no. I kept thinking about it all day wondering if this was a style I was just unfamiliar with so I did a little Pinterest research and Oh. My. Gosh. I am in love! The jewel tone theme is real y'all and its gorgeous. Now, I would probably never do this in my own home simply because I am not a fan of color in my own home but I would really like to do this to someones house! Here's how I would accomplish it in two ways, minimal color and maximum color. Enjoy!

Hard to believe but I'm loving the extra colorful one most. Let me know which one is your favorite or how you would do it in the comments!

vision come to life

I am a very visual person. I want to know exactly how a space is going to look before I ever decide to buy anything, so i create these, what I call, mock ups. I have no clue how to use Photoshop so I just use Paint on my computer which is why they look so janky, but it helps me to see the space for exactly as I imagine it. I told you all that I was really obsessed with grey cabinets lately so I decided to mock up a bathroom [with double and single sink options], a kitchen, my office and laundry room. This is what I came up with!

Texas inspired me.

I joined a new group on Facebook called At Home, if you havent heard of it go join it, NOW! Its seriously addicting. Most of the people on it are from Texas and from what I've seen the turquoise theme is heavy there. After scrolling through several posts with these amazing turquoise accents I got inspired to create a small house mood board. I cant help it. Since I cant change my house "theme" everyday I create these mood boards to sort of virtually change my own home. This is how I would use turquoise.... hope you like it!

boho fever

I have changed my decor style so many time. My first apartment [after I got married] was styled in black and red, then I decided I loved navy and yellow, then coastal style, then nautical, then industrial and currently farmhouse. Whew. Thats a lot when I actually write it down. I think its only natural to change your mind, luckily Ive gotten smarter and learned that if you used neutrals for your larger pieces [rug, sofa, drapes] that its easy [and much more affordable] to change out accessories for a whole new look. Right now, I am loving the boho, aztec, and moroccan vibes, and since I need to redo my master soon anyway I might just make some adjustments to my plans and change up some accessories throughout the house. These are my ideas right now.

It might seem like I have a ton to buy but actually I have most of the large pieces already and even some of the accessories can be re-worked. Pretty much the only things I would need to purchase are the pillow covers and the blankets. Knowing me this will probably change in a month but right now this is whats going through my head.

New house plans.

I am so excited to move. Its really bittersweet because I really did love the style and layout of this apartment but I can't tell you how excited I am to have a HOUSE! Its going to be so much work but I cant wait to transform it. The owner of the house is giving me pretty much full rein to do as i please but I don't want to pour money into a home that isn't mine so I definitely want to do as much as i can for as little as i can. I want to try to reuse as much of my own furniture and decor pieces as possible and just remix them to fit into this space. I'm not sure whats going to stay and whats going to be sold or whats going to simply be put in storage but the way I've planned it in my head, pretty much everything will be staying. Of course, I will have to shop for a lot more pieces seeing as we are going from a one bed one bath to a three bed three bath but hey, I'm not complaining about having to shop! The only thing I'm struggling with is the guest room, but this is what I've got so far for the rest of the house.....

Moooooooood

I love designing mood boards. Mostly, I love designing nurseries. Maybe its a little weird that I design rooms for children I don't even have, okay, its a lot weird, but, I don't care, I like doing it, so I wanted to show some that I have been working on.

Farmhouse/rustic

Navy and hot pink with brass accents

seafoam green and light pink
navy and lime

Im usually not a fan of color but I think in a nursery you kind of get to have fun with color. Hope you like them!
