Simplifying The Office

I loved the way my office looked back when we first renovated it, it looked awesome, really, but it wasn't practical.

The metal chair killed my bum, anyone who says they just love these chairs is lying to you. Also, the rug just kept getting wrinkled and it drove me crazy! I decided to change things up, simplify a bit. First I moved the chair from the loft in, but the rug was still bugging me.

So I removed it. Now, its a much calmer more comfortable office to work in!

So much better!

Any spaces you have that looked great in style but lacked in practicality? Tell me about it!

Guest Bathroom Update-Reveal

I mentioned in my post about the laundry room that I was headed towards the guest bathroom next, paint brush in hand, and now its time to reveal it.[If you're interested in the process I took click here] So lets get straight to it. Here's the bathroom the day we got the keys...

Now, here's how it looked up until a couple days ago...

The first thing I did was paint the cabinets.

Then I took on the counter top. I had leftover paint from my Giani Granite kit so I used that. This time, however, I used a base coat of Zinsser primer [in white], patted on some black [the primer that came with the kit] and then created layers on top with the pearl and gold that came with the kit as well as an off white I mixed up with leftover paint I had on hand. It ended up creating a much better product than using the actual kit step by step like I did downstairs. I'm pretty happy with how it came out. [If i ever get around to doing our master bath I will do a step by step then.]

Once the counter was sealed and dried I created a wood frame out of 1x4 [stained the same as everything else in my house click here for the tutorial]. Zack helped me nail it all together, then i added the "L" brackets for a little extra touch. Last part was to hang it, we just used heavy duty command strips on the back of the frame and pressed firmly onto the mirror.

Now, here's the finished product....

Someday we hope to update the floors and replace the counter and light fixture, but for now, its a nice update that goes well with the rest of the house. Until next time!
